EDWARD MAN, 1846-1929: Isole Andamane e Nicobare, Oceano Indiano: La mostra fotografica Observers of Man nel Museum of Mankind, Londra 1982; Il lavoro di Man tra i Negritos delle isole Andamane e gli isolani di lingua mon-khmer delle Nicobare; Il padre stabilisce a Port Blair una colonia penale; Giunge nelle Andamane nel 1869, nel corso di terribili epidemie. Vi rimarrà 32 anni! Per il mondo esterno le isole rappresentano un autentico mistero. Gli abitanti devono essere così primitivi, che si può solo sparare loro addosso... Nelle Nicobare; Studia lingue e costumi di Andamanesi e Nicobaresi; Gli Andamanesi, privati di approdi e settori di pesca, sopravvivono in "case" appositamente costruite, dove ricevono cibo e cure mediche; L'epidemia di morbillo del 1877.
